BIG's Food, Beverage and Packaging division is dedicated to commercializing products that are related to the food and beverage industry. We welcome food and beverage products, as well as packaging ideas, tools, gadgets, and technologies related to food and beverage.
In general, we're interested in seeing inventions that
- Address a widespread problem or significant opportunity in an innovative way: Your solution must be meaningfully and uniquely better than existing alternatives.
- Speak to a growing market: We're looking for products targeted at a growing trend or an expanding demographic.
- If it's a food/beverage item, it must be more than a recipe and more than an item: In general, companies are looking for new lines of products that are proprietary, defensible, and potentially extensive.
- If it's a device, it should fill mainstream needs: Would a large group of consumers use the product on a regular basis? Niche products (e.g., a new turkey baster or waffle iron) simply don't return enough in royalties for our investment.
- Ideally, more than just an idea: We prefer to review designs, formulations, prototypes, etc. While we will look at a concept at any stage of development, we're more interested in developed, tested, and proven solutions. As we tell inventors, companies license inventions, not ideas.
- Speak for themselves: Consumers give a package on a retail shelf less than 5 seconds of study. Can you easily and quickly sell them in that time?
Since the food division was just recently launched, most of our products in development are still under confidentiality agreement. One product that has been released into the market is the 9-Minute Marinator. This clever device, developed by inventor Shannon Varney and refined by engineer/inventor Arra David, exemplifies what we seek. It marinates and tenderizes a wide range of foods (meat, seafood, vegetables, etc.) in a fraction of the time that normal marination takes. It offers consumers greater convenience, taste, and flexibility--all at an affordable cost.
